Registration Process

Registration opens online through the official INEP system. Here is the step-by-step process:

1

Access the registration portal at celpe-bras.inep.gov.br during the open registration window.

2

Create an account with a valid email address. Foreign candidates registering outside Brazil must use the portal at their local Brazilian consulate or authorized test center.

3

Fill out your personal information accurately. Your ID document used during registration must match exactly the one you present on exam day.

4

Select your preferred testing center. Centers fill up quickly in major cities — register early to secure your preferred location.

5

Pay the registration fee through the available payment methods (bank slip, credit card, or international transfer for overseas centers). Your registration is only confirmed after payment is processed.

Testing Centers Worldwide

CELPE-BRAS is administered in Brazil at over 100 universities and public institutions across all states, making it highly accessible for candidates living in Brazil. Outside Brazil, the exam is available at more than 30 countries through Brazilian consulates and partner cultural institutes.

Countries with certified testing centers include the United States, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Japan, Argentina, China, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, and many others. The full list of international centers is published on the INEP website each edition.

Registration Fees

Fees vary depending on whether you are registering in Brazil or abroad. Some Brazilian universities offer fee waivers for low-income candidates — check with your local institution.

Registration in BrazilR$ 167,10
Registration abroad (per center)USD 60–90
Oral exam only (retake)R$ 85,00

Fees are updated each edition. Check the official edital (registration notice) for exact values.

Important Deadlines to Know

  • Registration deadline: applications submitted after the closing date are not accepted under any circumstances. Set a calendar alert for at least one week before the deadline.
  • Cancellation and refund window: usually the first 5 business days after registration closes. After this period, fees are non-refundable.
  • Document submission: some testing centers require supporting documents (proof of identity, proof of residency) to be submitted separately before a set date.
  • Results appeal period: typically a 5-day window after results are published during which candidates can request a formal review of their assessment.

What to Bring on Exam Day

Arriving unprepared on exam day can cost you your sitting fee. Make sure you have everything ready the night before:

  • Original photo identification document (passport, national ID, or residence card) — the exact document used during registration. Photocopies are not accepted.
  • Printed or digital confirmation of registration with your candidate number and assigned testing room.
  • Blue or black ballpoint pens (bring spares). Pencils are not permitted for the final written responses.
  • A watch (silent, no smartwatch) to manage your time during the three-hour written exam. Some rooms do not have visible clocks.
  • Water and a small snack to keep concentration through the three-hour written session. No electronic devices during the exam.
